What does it take to become a Certified Hood & Duct Cleaner, CHDC, from the Certified Hood & Duct Cleaners Association?

  1. Show proficiency in the field in the Hood Cleaning Schools’ exclusive technique of hood and duct kitchen grease exhaust cleaning system

  2. Attend our intensive one-on-one training on Hood & Duct Cleaning from Hood Cleaning School
  3. Read/Study the NFPA 96 Standards

  4. Read/Study the technical manuals supplied to you during your training
  5. Demonstrate how to properly clean a hood and duct system in actual real world settings

  6. Demonstrate proficiency in our Marketing & Sales Program

Once you obtain the status CHDC from the Certified Hood & Duct Cleaners Association you will be qualified to start your own hood & duct cleaning business.

Your Certification is only valid for 12 months, then you will need to submit 10 sets of before/after pictures of current work, current letters of references and current proof of insurance.

Our training is based upon the NFPA 96: Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations, from the owner’s “Hood Cleaning School Training Manual”, technical manuals, sales & marketing manuals, and from your one-on-one personalized training during the week.

IMPORTANT: This is an excellent reference manual.  It can be purchased in a paper back edition.  Purchase of this book is strictly optional, but it is recommended for those who are serious about this as their career.
